Attendance at New Mission

“In school everyday, that’s the Titan way!”

Spirit Week 2021

Why is school attendance important?

At New Mission, we strive to “empower all students to develop into critical thinkers and lifelong learners to better themselves, their futures, and their community”. One key component to achieving this is being in school, ready to learn.

At New Mission, we strive to show up and show out! We are committed to a 3-tiered model of attendance support. Our work ranges from whole-school events that celebrate on-track attendance, to individual interventions in which our goal is to eliminate barriers for our students.

New Mission Attendance Team

  • William Thomas | Head of School

I believe that attendance is important because it is the only way you can receive great instruction from your teachers. If you're absent, you miss out on the great instruction and experiences you could have had that day.

  • Kareem Cutler | Director of School Climate & Operations

I am motivated to be a part of the New Mission attendance team because I am responsible for being a role model for our students. I challenge myself to put a smile on a student's face daily and ensure everyone is feeling welcomed & safe within the community.

  • Alexis Erving | Psychology Intern

I am motivated to foster and be part of strong communities.

  • Dr. Lisa Van Luling | School Psychologist

  • Lynette Blue-Skerritt | Student Success Counselor, Registrar, and Enrollment Coordinator

  • Cynthia Victor | High School Social Worker

  • Norma Colon | Head Staff Assistant

  • Anna Lane | Family Liaison

Attendance is important to me because it opens the door to future success and creates an opportunity for students to pursue their dreams.

Our Work

At New Mission, we use a tiered system of attendance intervention. The following structure, which displays just a few examples of our strategies, dictates our work:

Advisory in Action: Students in their Advisory Class spend time building community and self-efficacy.
