Advisory
New Mission is a school that strives to fosters positive and healthy individualized relationships with our students. Advisory is a school-wide support offered to all students that, as a school, we pride ourselves on maintaining and enhancing. As we are currently traversing the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic, remote learning, and halted social, emotional, and academic development, the Advisory model remains a strong and essential component of our curriculum.
Advisors establish connections with students and between students. In general, advisors serve as a student’s lead advocate and support.
Advisors know our students’ names, strengths, and stories.
Advisors lead daily “connections” from 7:45-7:57
Connections time is an opportunity and space to form relationships that help facilitate growth and learning. This can take place through discussion, in circles, or in one on one conferences.
Advisor Role & Responsibilities:
Connect with families through beginning of year phone calls and communications.
Call home on the second consecutive day of a student’s absence.
Maintain continual communication with advisees’ teachers and support staff.
Complete portfolio presentation with advisees and families twice a year.
Serve as the student’s mentor and advocate.
